As the spring flowers bloom and birds begin to sing their cheery song, you know that summer is on it's way. Warm days that put the spring back into your step. That is of course unless you live in the world of Trelldom, where eternal winter is all that welcomes you. Cold and harsh, just like their brand of Black Metal. With Black Metal becoming a more accepted genre of music and while never destined to enter into the public domain as mainstream; the dark days of the early nineties seem like a distant memory. Their is little doubt the genre will always be synonymous with the darker side of metal but many of Black Metal's royalty have built their reputations upon myth, and all to often little fact. So to find one who believes in the ethos totally has become somewhat of a rarity. Enter Gaahl (Gorgoroth, Gaahlskagg & Sigfader) a name within Black Metal circles that has as much fear as admiration associated with it, to lead the Trelldom legion. "Til Minne..." is the first Trelldom release in nine years and like all good things, they come to those who wait. Time has done nothing to diminish the savagery of Trelldom's music, but has in fact served to heighten the bands feverish ferocity, as nine years of pent up anger rages forth as if hell itself had spewed open. This is Black Metal at it's most basic level. Raw, aggressive in the extreme and down right evil. It's hard to shake off the feeling of early Dark Throne when listening to "Til Minne...". Not so much in a direct musical comparison but more in the power and sinister atmosphere it exudes. The album marauders it way through thirty nine minutes of classic styled old school Black Metal, unsophisticated nor subtle in it's approach. It simply sonically bludgeons you with all the hate filled spite ridden venom it can dredge from the bowels of hell. Certainly not one for the faint hearted. |
