Eccentric and quite deranged Black Metallers Nifelheim are back after a seven year silence with their new album "Envoy Of Lucifer", and what self respecting metal site can resist hearing from the most studded band in Black Metal today? |
| Hey, how are things with you? | |
| Fuck you! | |
The bands new album “Envoy of Lucifer” is to be released on the 19th November. What can you tell us about the album? Is this in the vein of previous Nifelheim albums? |
| Yes it is. | |
“Envoy of Lucifer” is the first full length release by you since 2000’s Servants Of Darkness”. What was the reason for the seven-year hiatus, what have you all be doing during this time? |
| It have been a lot going on since the last LP. We have had several line up changes and so on, and time just slipped away! Otherwise there have been different criminal activities... | |
| The silence was broken periodically by the release of the split EP with Vulcano. How did this come about, and did you expect the EP to sell out in less than a week? | |
Yeah, we thought it was about time to release something and the offer to release the Vulcano split was excellent as Vulcano is one of the only remaining great and real “Black Metal” bands. I was satisfied when I heard about the sales. |
Were the 10 songs that appear of “Envoy of Lucifer” written over the seven-year break, or did you guys get together and write ahead of the recording of the album? |
![]() |
| They were written all over the break. Some of them we worked with for years to be perfect, and some came quite fast. | |
| Where, when and how long did you spend in the studio to record “Envoy of Lucifer”, and is the studio an environment you flourish in? | |
It was recorded in an analogue studio called Ace tone in Stockholm. We started to record the album on May 4th 2007 and put the grounds of the songs. Then we went on tour with Venom. After that we finished the stuff in July sometime.. No computers or digital equipment used! |
This will be the first album to be released through Regain Records, what were your deciding factors with signing with Per and his label? |
| That they will do a good job for the band. | |
Do the band have any plans to tour in support of the “Envoy of Lucifer”? |
| Yes, In Hell! | |
2007 saw you on the road in Scandinavia with Vemon. What was it like to be on the same bill as Kronos? |
| Fucking Great! Venom still Rules! | |
What influences do you all bring to Nifelheim, as you claim not to influenced by any release from 1990 onwards? |
Fuck the present fuck the future fuck the past! We are only infliuenced by Evil, Death & Chaos!!! |
I can see from the 10 songs on the album the band have continued to use real traditional Metal sounding titles. Are you not concerned that people will mistake Nifelheim for a novelty act? |
| We don't care what any people would think! The titles are expressing what the songs deal with! | |
Over the bands 17-year history, despite the lack of touring and only four full-length releases, you have achieved a huge underground following. What do you think has drawn so many fans to you? |
| That we are one of the only ones who can do great hateful and agressive music and think for ourselves in this pathetic “underground” scene! | |
| Any final words to all the Nifelheim fans out there? | |
| The storm of the reaper will reach you! | |
