| More synonymous with being the
epicentre of the Hardcore Metal scene, spawning greats such as Sick Of It All,
Agnostic Front and Cro-Mags, and the list goes on. It is easy to forget that
some of Thrash Metals greats have also crawled out of the clubs of New York City.
While all eyes were focused on the West Coast Thrash explosion of the late
eighties, the likes of Anthrax and Overkill were cutting their teeth on the
emerging East Coast scene, proving life existed outside California. It is with
this heritage that HavocHate have drawn their influences to power the 2006 New
York Trash scene into 2006. "Cycle Of Pain" is the second release for HavocHate, with an almost completely new line up, this could almost be a new band, such is the development from 2002's debut "This Violent Earth". The introduction of one of Thrash Metals elder statesman, in the shape of former Testament bassist Greg Christian, was always a sure fide way of shoring up your rhythm section. It is the inclusion however of Tim Bouchee at the helm that has arguably changed the fortunes of the group. In Bouchee HavocHate have a vocalist that has the range and power to provide Halford like scream to the low end growls of a Chuck Billy, and just about everything in between. From the opening bars of "Cycle Of Pain" to the last shrill scream of "Rotting Hour", HavocHate have produced an absolute feast of heavy duty Thrash, in your face and uncompromising. The bands influences are too numerous to list, but it would be hugely unfair to label HavocHate exponents of a particular sound. The blend of songs on offer is splendid in their diversity, perfectly balancing between the slower low tempo moments building to the more manic headbanging anthem; from the Pantera-esque "Wicked" to the downright Slayer sounding "Still Alive". Under the watchful eye of Freddy Ordine "Cycle Of Pain" enjoys a robust and solid production quality, as thick and heavy as a Texan Rip Eye. While "Cycle Of Pain" will predominantly appeal to the Thrash inducted majority, in an age where the Thrash super groups are once again on the rampage this could be HavocHate's time for the their day in the sun. |
