There can be few names more synonymous with Death Metal than the name of Nicke Andersson, co-creator of Nihilist and Entombed, and integral to what would become the now (in)famous Stockholm sound. Many years have passed and numerous Hellacopters released since Andersson turned his attention from the genre he helped define, and like the first rays of summer sun on your face after a long cold winter, a welcome return.

With a whole array of greats from the day actively back on the scene plying their trade, how refreshing then is it to have Nicke back cutting his teeth with his latest venture? Death Breath's tongue in cheek approach to the genre may to many seem nothing more than poking fun, particularly when it comes to their song titles. "Chopping Spree", "Coffins Of The Unembalmed Dead: and "Flabby Little Things are but a few. Don't however be lulled into a false sense that "Stinking Up The Night" has little but amusement value to offer. Yes Andersson, has a smile back on his face, but one of contentment and of a man enjoying what he does, and with the list of contributors reading as a who's who of extreme music you can't help but be impressed.

Stylistically Death Breath have all the hallmarks you'd look for in any old school Death Metal band circa 1988 / 89; more by intent than lack of vision you'd have to say. "Sticking Up The Night" is a homage to the scene forefathers and rather than breaking new ground, celebration is paid to the likes of Bathory, Venom and alike. And it has to be said that any album that can boast a line-up that includes Scott Carlson, Jorgen Sandstrom and Fred Estby gets more than a passing grade when it comes to Death Metal 101. Death Breath really are a return to the fun days gore all mighty.
