Perhaps it’s something to do with half the year being in near total darkness or the freezing temperatures but suffice to say Finland’s Dead Shape Figure are pissed off about something. Two years on from their debut release, “The Grand Karoshi”, a ferocious anger packed cross-over of Death/Thrash and these Helsinki boys are showing no sign of calming down. “Enter The Disease of St. Vitus” is their latest release and continues in much the same vein as its predecessor.

The well justified similarities to The Haunted that so dominated their debut are still evident with one significant difference. While “Enter The Disease of St. Vitus” still has the urgency and velocity of “The Grand Karoshi” there is a far more structured controlled feeling to the album. Not that the aggression has been tempered at all, more channeled in a consistent direction where the album feels more like a continuous themed piece of music rather than a collection of songs written in the same vein.

Dead Shape Figure are certainly produces of their influences and if you can get over the fact this album feels and sounds almost like “One Kill Wonder” mark II then you’re sure to enjoy it. The band is unquestionably growing into a band well capable of rising through the ranks of the Death/Thrash scene rapidly on this showing. “Enter The Disease of St. Vitus” will with a bit of luck not disappear under the radar in the same way as the bands debut sadly did, and if this proves to be the case then there is most surely and audience for DSF out there.
