Stoner Rock by the very nature of the genres name alone should give any prospective listeners the best describes the sound that is about to bellow from their speakers. Music slower than a sloth with it's feet nailed to the floor. Born from the desire to groove like a bastard and take Sabbath's grand blue print and add kilo of reefer, a pinch of old fashioned Doom and the formula is complete...Stoner Rock. Few exponents of the genre have, or can claim to have such fire, beer and weed in their belly's as Wisconsin's own Bongzilla. Bongzilla's reefer fuelled latest opus "Amerijuanican" is by far the bands most complete release to date. Gone are the until now ever present sound bites that have graced the Bongzilla back catalogue to date. Fret not however as this is the only significant change to the Bongzilla recipe, Muleboy's trademark rasping smoky vocals remain, as do the sludge thick guitar sound. All ably aided by an outstandingly production quality, as heavy as hell and twice as mean. Featuring seven songs, "Amerijuanican" is pure Stoner bliss; rich in the genres heritage and should appeal to the novice and connoisseur alike. The cover version of Muddy Waters "Champagne and Reefer" proves and inspired choice and never sounded so good. While "Weedy Woman" and the title track are as lovingly cultivated as the very herb that help inspire them. Choosing to keep within the confines of their own ganja addled world, "Amerijuanican" is nothing more than personification of the very life blood that flows through the very veins of the true Stoner. So much so the album should come with instructions to sit back, grab a beer and role a fat one. |
