Thrash is back, and in a big way. Possibly the reformation of the likes of Exodus or the original Testament ignited the flame but it is the new blood than has thrown the fuel on the fire; and it is burning with a fury. We all know that no one can recreate the freshness and the excitement we all felt the first time we heard of ‘Master Of Puppets’ or ‘Reign In Blood’, nor are the latter day bands breaking any musical boundaries but this isn’t what it is about. The genre thrived on the ability of the bands to create a frenzy of aggression with their catchy hooks and thunderous rhythms pushing the mayhem further and further until…..well Death Metal came along.

Of the new breed of UK Thrashers Amenti are leading the way in unsigned bands. Their debut release “Under The Dying Sun” has not so much made an impact but rather totally decimated everyone who has come into contact with it. Benefiting from an enormous sound thanks largely to excellent production, the riffs are spat out like rapid machine gun fire. Elements akin to Slayer are there but not so you’d consider the band clones, more tipping a nod to one of the countless influences Amenti fuse in their attempt to carve out their notch in the genre.

With tunes such as ‘Scorched Earth Tactics’, ‘Nibiru’ and ‘Mother Tenna’ Amenti have made more than impressive start to what should prove a long and fruitful career if current standard continue. But focusing on the now, no longer can the UK Trash claim to be the poor relation to its US big brother, not when the underground is capable of producing bands of such quality as Amenti. It should be only a matter of time before a label picks these guys up and having seen the likes of Evile be projected into the Thrash stratosphere anything is possible.
